Child abuse is repeated mistreatment or neglect of a child resulting in injury or harm. Child abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal. The hotline collects factual information about the alleged abuse and assesses the level of endangerment. Information will be forwarded to the appropriate office or, if needed, referred to the DCFS Emergency Response Command Post for immediate intervention in life threatening situations.
