Child abuse is repeated mistreatment or neglect of a child resulting in injury or harm. Child abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, or verbal. If you witness or suspect child abuse, call the Child Protection Hotline. The hotline will collect factual information about the abuse, and assess the level of endangerment. Information will be forwarded to the appropriate office or, if needed, referred to the DCFS Emergency Response Command Post for immediate intervention in life threatening situations.
